This reader wants to know...who do you consider a good boutique painter? A painter of jeans, sneakers, tees? I'd love to get a rating on best to worst. I've seen some items lately that look like my 5 year old painted it! Do people really look at that and say "WOW!!" or are they like me and say...OMG! That's just awful?? Even if I tried to do it...I wouldn't list it if it looked like some of the things I've seen lately. Don't get me wrong...there are some amazing painters on Ebay. But some of these people are wasting there time having big models model their items. Just my 2 cents!

I would go with someone who has feedback reflecting repeat business. I would imagine they were happy if they repeated the experience. Other than that I can't rate the painters"

For a little prayer:

Last Fall, my little sister, my only sister, contacted me after 5 years of not speaking to me and wanted my help. ( We cut off contact when she began too consistently asking for money and I had a feeling something wasn't "right") She was in her words "leaving her husband for a better life". Together, they have 4 children ages 10, 9, 4 & 2. So I went about helping her out. I moved her things into a home that was far from perfect but I did what I could. I asked for donations for her & the kids to help them get on their feet and gave money (which I didn't have leaving me with racked up credit cards). Then in January, we got a call that her home was stormed with Va. State Troopers, Sheriffs Dept. etc... I freaked out. I called our father because at the same time, her husband had been threatening to kill her and so that's what I thought had happened. We had no idea where the children were etc...But it wasn't. She had been harboring a felon in her home & he was arrested.

Because of this, my parents went to Social Services & filed for custody of all 4 kids where they have had them ever since. We've been to court twice since then and go back the first week of June. The children were taken from my sister & her husband due to the drugs, neglect and other charges that have surfaced. It's just been a nightmare! Needless to say, my sister isn't speaking to me again, lol. But worse, she rarely contacts the children. The kids father has seen the children only twice this year.

The two older girls are in therapy now, the mentions below were discovered in the first session...and they have been very open with me in what has been going on with them & their parents. Horror stories you'd never expect to hear from a child. The oldest has told me & the therapist that she has watched as her parents & other family members (husbands side) and her mom's "friends".... "stick needles in their arms and fall asleep leaving me to watch the kids till the next day". "Left us locked in the van on 'Junkyard Hill' while momma took bags of stuff and sold it to people and came back and picked us up half an hour later". " we watch her crunch up blue pills and something white, into powder and she takes her tea straw, cuts it in half & sticks it in her nose and sniffs it up". "sticks salt rocks in their pipes & hold lighters under it while they smoke it" and "always making their own cigarettes that smell really funny and makes us sleepy".

I didn't know what to say. I just sat & listened as this SWEET 10 yr old girl kept spilling these unbelievable stories. If I had ever known this was going on, I'd have taken the children from them LONGGGGGGGG AGO!!!

So, as I said, we go back to court in June. We are hoping the judge will make a decision then and the kids will forever been in my & my parents custody. The children (two oldest) has made it VERY clear that they do not want to go back with either parent but does love them. We understand. But we do not know if the judge will listen to what they have to say or not. We just don't know. But the fact that my sister has failed every drug test since this started, shows no interest in visiting or calling the kids, has asked the kids to lie to the judge etc... we just don't know what they will do.

If you are still with me at this point, PRAY... PRAY FOR EVERYONE. If you have a prayer chain etc.. at your church, put this email in that box! PLEASE!"

The Virgina school shootings, and others

ARE you Raising a BULLY???

I was sick about the tragic shootings at Virginia tec. Hits home because one of my kids is in college right now. It is very scary. I saw a comment made on this blog that the shooter was some one's baby. That is true, and unless he was born a madman, which he could have been, something else, went wrong along the way.

Everyone in the media is blaming Television, video games even trying to find out what song he listened to over and over. Matched up one of his pictures to a scene from a movie. But I heard one report that as far as I am concerned gets to the root of the problem, and every other situation like this. Fellow students said he was bullied in school as he grew up. Wow, the common thread emerges. Every student who has gone in and murdered classmates was teased in school.

NOTHING can cause rage and hatred, or self hatred more in young people than being picked on and bullied by your peers. Most people overcome it, some don't.
For some kids that is just too much and push's them over the edge. Being bullied day after day.

There should be zero tolerance for bullying.

Bullies should be isolated they and their parents should be made to go through counseling to learn how to be respectful of other human beings before their kids are let back in school.

From students to TEACHERS... Everyone should be accepted, and feel comfortable when they go to school, or out in public. Not only does it cause situations like these school shootings. But how many kids suicides are committed over not being accepted and bullied in school..(the two young brothers in England, murder suicide, they couldn't take the teasing and bullying anymore so one shot the other, then himself one morning on his way to school.) How sad .

As Parents you have all the power over how you raise your kids. You lead by example. The next time you make a rude comment about a fat person, someone who is different or someone of another color. STOP and make sure there aren't tiny ears and eyes taking it all in.

I just thought that you might find this little tip somewhat interesting. I have an inside source in the boutique community on Ebay that has informed me that there is about to be a BIG merge between 2 design groups. I can't go into more detail yet, but it looks like somebody is gonna really shake things up in the boutique community. I don't think there's ever been a "merge" before, has there? When I get more details, I'll let you know!!! I do know this is a FACT, though, so watch for something to happen before summer!!!

Happy Birthday to the blog

On April 15th of 2006 I started this blog, as designer X. I posted anonymously so that I could write and post about the boutique community as a whole, as I found humor in so many things that went on in the boutique community.

What has happened over the past year? Well for one the blog is still here. I never thought about how long it would make it , only that it was fun at the time. Now looking back over the year has been fun....I decided to sum it up for ya!

In May wagglepop reopened, we learned about Flaming, and MaryAnne of Pink*papillon is chosen "soft flex's" designer of the year
In June Brittany Spears posed Naked, I found out I was a gifted adult, the blog did it's first real press release, we learned Farbenmix was a word and the mini mall hunted man. We discussed camel toe of the foot, and learned about the muffin top.
In July Nancy Langdon designer of Studio Tantrum and Boose*gumps hit the scene, Amy Butler lands in the hall of shame, the Pirate trend takes off, we learned about Goofbay, and 7thave goes thru an overhaul. In July my favorite launch took place. Hosted by Nikkiknits, all 50 states represented, and then some. Some creative ensembles came out of that Launch. Last summer
House of telsa sold fur colors, Boutique Village opened its community room, and Ivy Lane experiences an upset. Fall brought guest hosts to the blog, only the brave took the leap, Creative design got a knew name, I tried to auction off the blog, we paid homage to My-Angel Sophie and Steve Irwin was tragically killed. October, one of my favorite months, introduced us to Hyena cart, The pink tulip does feature interviews for the blog and Designer X woke up one morning and unveiled her identity . Late fall turned cloudy with the "purported outing" of Evileena and the BDB implosion. The boutique Godfather took it to the mattress, and the blog recieves record hate mail. The giving spirit of Christmas bring out the blogs First coloring contest, and OUR first Christmas giveaway. Since the first of the year we have been introduced to Etsy, not only the mankini, but the mantutu. Baby leggs from justkiddn, and "youcan makethis" is featured on local TV. Journal Modiste introduces several new features including a "my launches" and "designer offered Free shipping" links, and the blog featured one of my favorite videos.sent in by a reader.."My hands are bananas"

We were introduced to many characters who took up space in the comments section. The names were hysterical. One of the funniest was "monkeybutter" . Only one though became known throughout the boutique community, Evileena. Evileena started out as a funny and confusing character. Over time though, her comments became (just as confusing ) but more pointed and mean. Some were unpublishable. Many designers became her target. She started her own blog, and became a target herself, and in the end, although never officially outed was taken down. Many people thought she made the blog fun. Those of us who couldn't understand her.
Her last comment on the blog was just a week or so ago, which went unpublished, said she started Evileena for a purpose and her mission was accomplished and Evileena will not be back. .....

Any regrets??? Designer x still gets the occasional hate mail, still publish's 50% of what comes in. I am afraid I may have lost a few friends, made some enemies of people I never knew, for that I am sorry, nothing has ever been a personal vendetta for me, I still remain neutral and try to find humor where there is none . The people who really know me... they are still there. So that's all that matters. As the blog rolls on..... Happy Birthday DM!!
